WHY VETERANS MAKE EXCEPTIONAL DRIVERS

Trained to a Safety Standard

Pre-trip inspections, checklists, and zero-tolerance safety culture are already second nature to you.

Heavy Vehicle Hours

LMTVs, HEMTTs, tankers, buses — time in the seat of a heavy vehicle is time carriers count.

Built for Structure

Logbooks, hours-of-service, and dispatch schedules run on the same rhythm you already know.

Proven Under Pressure

Long hauls, bad weather, tight windows. Carriers hire veterans because you keep moving.

YOUR PATH, YOUR BENEFITS

Six ways your service pays for your CDL

Most veterans qualify for more than one. We help you figure out which combination gets you licensed fastest.

GI BILL

Post-9/11 GI Bill

Covers up to 100% of tuition at a VA-approved CDL school, plus a monthly housing allowance while you train.

CH 31

VR&E (Veteran Readiness & Employment)

With a service-connected disability rating, VR&E can cover training, tools, and job placement — separate from your GI Bill.

WAIVER

Military Skills Test Waiver

Two years safely operating heavy military vehicles? Your state may waive the CDL road test entirely.

ACTIVE

DoD SkillBridge

Still in? Train up to six months before your separation date, on orders, at no cost to you.

OJT

On-the-Job Training

Get paid while you learn. Carriers approved for OJT can supplement your wages with GI Bill funds during your first months.

SWAP

Even Exchange

Some states trade your military driving record straight across toward a civilian CDL. Fewer steps, less paperwork.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Questions we get from veterans

Still not sure what you qualify for?  Call (877) 423-5123 — ask for the veterans desk.

  • No. You don’t need any commercial driving experience to get started. Our ELDT Theory course walks you through the knowledge you need to take the next step toward your CDL.

  • Eligible veterans may be able to use GI Bill benefits toward approved CDL training programs. Coverage depends on your eligibility and the school you choose, and we can help connect you with schools that work with VA education benefits.

  • Yes, you may be able to. Eligible service members can use programs like DoD SkillBridge to begin approved career training before leaving active duty, subject to program and command approval.

  • No problem. You don’t need a driving-related MOS to get a CDL. Your military experience may unlock additional benefits or waivers, but anyone can follow the standard CDL training path.

  • Yes. Starting your ELDT Theory online can save you both time and money. Our partner schools may give you up to $500 in tuition credit and up to 60 hours of classroom credit when you arrive with your ELDT Theory already completed.

  • If you operated qualifying military vehicles, you may be able to skip the CDL road skills test. The Military Skills Test Waiver can help eligible veterans and service members turn their military driving experience into a civilian CDL faster.

  • You may qualify if you have recent experience safely operating military vehicles comparable to commercial vehicles. Eligibility depends on your driving experience, service history, and state requirements—we can help you understand whether the waiver may apply to you.

You already did the hard part.

Tell us about your service and we’ll unlock your veteran rate on ELDT Theory — then match you with behind-the-wheel schools that take your benefits.
